"Homosexualität als Asylgrund" steht auf einem Transparent geschrieben, das über der Oranienstraße in Kreuzberg/Berlin hängt - eine Forderung der schwulen, lesbischen und transsexuellen Communities. Die Super-8-Kamera schwenkt auch auf andere Transparente, die auf Türkisch und Arabisch alle Besucherinnen des Christopher Street Days 1998 willkommen heißen. Seit den 1990er Jahren hat sich mit dem Kreuzberger CSD wie auch mit Gayhane, einer Party im ebenfalls auf der Oranienstraße gelegenen Nachtklub SO36, die queere, migrantische Szene einen eigenen Raum geschaffen.

Der Super-8-Film wurde von der Kulturproduzentin Madeleine Bernstorff und der Kuratorin Elke aus dem Moore gedreht. Er ist wie ein privates Erinnerungsdokument dem Alltäglichen und Direkten zugewandt und lässt die Involviertheit der Filmemacherinnen erkennen. Der Film hat Teil am Glamour der Diven und DJanes, Lale Lokum, Sabuha Sallam und DJ Ipek und an der Attraktivität der auf der Bühne performten transsexuellen Alternative zur heterosexuellen und mehrheitsdeutschen Norm - Feier und zugleich politisches Manifest. Lale Lokum bezieht sich in ihrer Performance auf die transsexuelle Sängerin Bülent Ersoy.

Mit seinen maximal drei Minuten pro Rolle ist der Film ein Statement für die gelegentliche Miniatur, der Film ist während des Drehens in der Kamera geschnitten. Aus der Beiläufigkeit des Gefilmten, dem Aufscheinen der Transparente, den Straßenszenen und SängerInnen entsteht so ein parteiisches, alternatives historisches Dokument.

"Homosexuality as Grounds for Asylum" reads the banner hanging over Oranienstraße in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin - a demand of the gay, lesbian and transgender communities. The super-8 camera pans the other Turkish and Arabic banners welcoming visitors to Berlin's GLBT festivities, Christopher Street Days (CSD) in 1998. Since the 1990s, the queer immigrant scene has created a space of its own with the Kreuzberg CSD as well as Gayhane, a party held regularly at the club SO36, also on Oranienstraße.
The super-8 film was made by cultural producer Madeleine Bernstorff and curator Elke aus dem Moore. Like a private memory document, it is dedicated to the everyday and the direct and reflects the involvement of the filmmakers themselves. The film participates in the glamour of the divas Lale Lokum and Sabuha Sallam and DJ Ipek and the attractiveness of the transsexual alternative to the heterosexual and majority-German norm that is being performed on the stage - at once party and political manifesto. Lale Lokum is referring with her act to the transsexual Turkish performer Bülent Ersoy. With a maximum of three minutes per reel, the super-8 film is a statement about the occasional miniature; it is edited in the camera while being filmed. In this way, an engaged, alternative and historic document arises from the casualness of what is filmed, the glimpses of the banners, the street scenes and singers.
